Here are some activities that worked for introducing colours in kindergarten where the majority of pupils already know most colours as well as how secondary colours are created.

👀5′ 1st activity when introducing colours is to show them flashcards with the colours on, name, and repeat a couple of times. We have students who wear red or blue etc to stand up.

🙆♀️5′ 2nd activity is to look at how primary colours; namely red, yellow, and blue form other colours according to similar lessons they conducted in Greek classes. I use mess-free plastic coloured sheets. The same can be done by mixing different colours of acrylic paint on sheets of paper. We can play a game where we wear colourful sunglasses and we see the world…red or purple.

🧑🔬5′ The 3rd activity is to conduct an experiment with water and coloured kitchen roll paper so as to see if the paper absorbs the water and whether the colours will be transferred to create a rainbow. Since it takes a couple of minutes, we can form our hypotheses of what may happen, hide it and look at it at the end of the lesson.
🏃♀️5′ 4th activity: Play the game I spy with my little eye something… red and have students go to touch something red in classroom. It works better in groups.
👩🏫5′ 5th activity: We read the story Brown Bear,Brown, what do you see? by Eric Carle🐻 (It definitely works much better if we imitate animals and allow them time to create an impromptu dance while imitating different animals; sitting on the chairs doesn’t seem to be appropriate here)

📺3′ 6th activity: We watch the animated story of Brown Bear on https://youtu.be/Mc9My7TnxFU?feature=shared (optional)
🎨10′ 7th activity: We paint our favourite animals while the teacher reads the book aloud again. Normally, I don’t use printables but rather have young learners draw on white sheets of paper. But for this specific activity, I will use a printable with a picture of a bear because I want them to cut it and create their own book to take home. We ask them to see if they remember the colours.

🙆5′ 8th activity: Divide students in 2 groups. Have them wear a headband with laminated cards from the story of Eric Carle (e.g., brown bear, red bird, etc) and play pantomime.
