Kindergarten, it is #19 |The Very Hungry Caterpillar

🐛5′ Activity 1: I introduce new vocabulary with the help of flashcards for the book The VeryHungryCaterpillar by Eric Carle. I usually devote two lessons to Caterpillar, at least. One for fruits (apple, pear, plum, strawberry, orange, watermelon, leaf, hungry) and one for what the caterpillar eats on Saturday (cake, ice cream, pickle, cheese, salami, lollipop, sausage, cupcake)

📚10′ Activity 2 Pre-reading: We look at the cover and try to guess what happened. Learners who know the story may give us some hints but not reveal the end. Reading: I read the story and pass among learners so as to have the chance to touch the pages and the little holes the caterpillar leaves after eating each fruit. Post-reading: We take turns saying whether we liked the  story or not and what made an impression on us. (The story is also available online. )

10′ Activity 3 Dramatisation: I give each learner a flashcard of a fruit (apple, pear, plum, strawberry, orange, watermelon) and the learner who is dressed as the caterpillar gathers them asking ‘An apple, please’.

➕️5′ Activity 4: We count and paint the fruits the caterpillar ate. We review colours and numbers 1-5

🖍10′ Activity 5: We create our own caterpillar with a water ballon and green acrylic paint. We let it dry and then create a caterpillar. Alternatively, we can create a class poster of a caterpillar with balloons prints.

🎶3′ Activity 6: We sing the song Days of the week in the Addams family song rhythm

🙏5′ Activity 7: We review the vocabulary taught as I ask them to bring me the  flashcards and realia I employed for the lesson
