Fantastically Great Women Who Changed The World’ by Kate Pankhurst, descendent of Emmeline Pankhurst the famous British suffragette of the early twentieth century. We unreservedly loved the pictures and the interesting narration of each woman’s achievement.
It is a book that will boost every girl’s confidence because, as I often say, representation in culture, society and here publications is what truly matters. Although the third invisible member of our blog, my husband, is frowning upon some parts of the book such as Coco Channel’s dubious Nazi involvement and lack of representation of minority women, we would overall recommend it for children over five years old; in addition to being a great read for young learners of English as a foreign language.
We hope in similar publications which will include both women and men from across the globe. Those who resisted, fought and set an example for next generations deserve to be commemorated. This is one meaningful way for young readers to indulge in history, too.
Some of the featured women are Jane Austen, Gertrude Ederle, Coco Chanel, Frida Kahlo, Marie Curie, Mary Anning, Mary Seacole, Amelia Earhart, Agent Fifi, Sacagawa, Emmeline Pankhurst, Rosa Parks, Anne Frank.
